Anyone Up for a Game of Bocce?

In 2010, Mediterra members and the Sports Club staff came up with an idea to create an innovative bocce program and facility to add to Mediterra’s already amazing list of member activities.  Three years later, that impromptu idea has been met with tremendous success with over 500 members taking part in the program annually, providing a hub which connects sports and golf members in a fun, social atmosphere.

Bocce, also known as Italian lawn bowling, is an ancient game that was recently revitalized for modern day enjoyment.  It’s a competitive game of skill and strategy that requires team members throw their team balls as close as possible to the pallino (the target – a smaller ball) until all of the balls have been thrown.  Points are awarded to the team whose ball is closest to the pallino. A new frame then begins until a team reaches an overall score of sixteen.

Mediterra members of all skill levels take part in Bocce with the use of the luxury golf community’s beautiful, nationally recognized 'Bocce Garden' facility, set beside the Sports Club.  The Bocce Garden provides the perfect setting to enjoy a beautiful sunny day on the two 'Har Tru' sub-surface irrigated courts built by famed court designer Tony Ritzman, but is lit for night play until 10:00 pm.  The sport is so popular that Mediterra has Mixed, Men’s, and Women’s leagues for tournament play.
