The team at Mediterra Naples has always tried to ensure their residents are able to live an active, healthy, and happy lifestyle with a miscellany of luxury amenities from which to choose. You can join in on the variety of social programs at the Mediterra Clubhouse, work up a sweat in the Sports Club, spend some time in our lush gardens, and even take part in trendy and fun programs not available in other new home communities.
One of those trendy programs is The Club at Mediterra’s bocce program, one of our most unique and innovative amenities. The bocce program was created in 2010 to add to the luxury home community’s already amazing list of member activities, and since its inception the program has grown to more than 700 participants with varying skill levels. Recently, our members enjoyed the first Bocce Fall Open Play event of the year that gave them the opportunity to reconnect with some of our residents that have returned for the winter and help maintain an active lifestyle in a fun, social atmosphere.Mediterra Naples’ beautiful, nationally recognized ‘Bocce Garden’ facility, set beside the Sports Club, features two ‘Har Tru’ sub-surface irrigated courts built by famed court designer Tony Ritzman. These courts are always available to members and are even lit until 10:00 pm for night play. Since the program has grown so much over the years, The Club at Mediterra has added Mixed, Men’s, and Women’s leagues for tournament play.
In addition to Bocce courts and tournaments, The Club at Mediterra has recently installed three Pickleball courts to continue their trend of featuring fun and popular sports to their residents. The Bocce Fall Open Play event offered members an introduction to the new Pickleball program, another unique amenity not typically found in new home communities.
Pickleball was invented in 1965 by three fathers - Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum - who grew tired of listening to their children complain about being bored in the summertime. It is a combination of badminton, tennis, and ping pong, and has nothing to do with pickles whatsoever. In fact, Joel Pritchard’s wife, Joan, says she began calling it Pickleball because “the combination of different sports reminded me of the pickle boat in crew where oarsmen were chosen from the leftovers of other boats.” Other sources say it was named after the Pritchard’s dog, Pickles. Either way, the popularity for this summer sport has grown and now residents can dink, volley, and smash their way to a healthy and active lifestyle at Mediterra.
Bocce and pickleball are only two ways you can enjoy your active Florida lifestyle at Mediterra. Our luxury home community offers a variety of programs and amenities so you can choose how you want to stay fit and healthy. It’s why Mediterra was recognized as one of America’s Healthiest Clubs, ranking it among the top 10 percent of private clubs for its commitment to fitness and wellness for members and staff.
The Sports Club offers more than 30 classes per week and features a variety of programs and state-of-the-art equipment for its nearly 300 participating members. It also offers a top-rated tennis program - recognized by the U.S. Tennis Association as being an Outstanding Private Facility - with seven Har-Tru tennis courts, the two-court Tennis Colosseum, and a rounded court for members to enjoy.
Mediterra residents can also hit the greens on our two Tom Fazio-designed championship golf courses designed to blend in with the nature preserves, lakes, and wetlands surrounding them. These challenging, rewarding, and breathtakingly beautiful courses were named one of the 50 Best Golf Communities in America by Golf Digest. Golf membership is capped at just 225 members per 18 holes, and currently, the waiting time for a golf membership is one year when you purchase one of our existing Mediterra Naples homes for sale. However, London Bay Homes at Mediterra has reserved a number of golf memberships for prospective homeowners that purchase a new construction home, making it even easier to choose your active lifestyle at Mediterra.
