Consistently rated as one of Naples’ most prestigious golf destinations, and named the Collier Building Industry Association’s 2017 Community of the Year, London Bay Homes’ Mediterra community on Livingston Parkway in North Naples showcases two distinctly different golf courses designed by Tom Fazio.

Set against the splendor of Mediterra’s spectacular tableau, the courses weave their way along sparkling lakes, wetlands, and nature preserves. As beautiful as they are playable, each of the courses presents distinctive design characteristics and unique challenges for golfers of every skill level. Members also enjoy the benefits of the Golf Learning Center that offers the latest in swing analysis technology and personalized instruction. Membership opportunities at Mediterra are limited to just 225 members per 18 holes, allowing for abundant tee times. Golf Members are treated to a well-rounded program built upon a robust tournament and instructional offering, a staff focused on genuine service and hospitality, and world-class amenities. Purchasers of homes built by London Bay are eligible to secure a full golf membership immediately rather than being placed on the membership waiting list as a Limited Golf Member. London Bay Homes, an award-winning homebuilder and developer in the Southwest Florida luxury home market for more than three decades, manages all new home construction sales and marketing for Mediterra.

The Club at Mediterra has been certified as the world's first 36-hole Audubon International Silver Signature Sanctuary.  Known as the “master of environmentally-sensitive golf course designs,” The Fazio Design Team took every precaution to ensure that the golf courses at Mediterra not only supported, but nurtured the surrounding environment and habitat. Fazio incorporated rolling bunkers and natural land forms into both golf courses to compliment the Mediterranean countryside ambiance of the community. The fairways’ firm Platinum Paspalum turf provides fast playing conditions that is complimented by the Tiff-Eagle Bermuda grass on the greens. Both courses were designed with golfers of all skill levels in mind and feature nine tee options and no forced carries.

The North Course blends naturally with the topography and features subtle doglegs that angle away from the golfer’s line of play. Members are particularly captivated by the 7th and 17th holes on the North Course. The 7th hole is a hole unto itself with a natural tree line, a beautiful water feature, and not a home in sight. The setting has a northern feeling and conjures a sense of being totally removed from the day-to-day and connecting with the surroundings in a uniquely personal way. A nice scoring hole, the 17th hole is a gentle boomerang par 5 with a natural setting that includes a unique bent leaning pine tree that provides an appealing memory point. There are no home intrusions on the 17th hole.

The South Course challenges the golfer with elevated greens, fast chipping areas, and strategically placed bunkers with beautiful flashing. The signature of the South Course is a corridor that showcases views of holes 11 through 14. The 11th hole is a beautiful straight par 4. On the horizon, golfers will also see the 12th tee, the 13th green, and the 14th hole in the distance. The setting offers striking sunset views in the late afternoon. Like the North Course, the South Course features beautiful water features. Fazio has incorporated bunkering on both courses that includes low entries and steep exits on the green sides. The bunkers are vast in size and while it may be relatively easy to exit them, advancing the ball all the way to the green may be another story. While both courses can offer a stern challenge depending on tee selection, higher handicapped golfers will appreciate that neither course has a hole with a forced carry over a water hazard.

While the golf staff’s commitment to impeccable service is extended to all members, great care has been taken to welcome those who are new to the game, particularly for ladies who are not only interested in learning the game of golf, but also enjoying the socializing that is part of the Mediterra golf experience.

“We take a very personalized approach with all members, be they highly experienced or inexperienced,” said Rob Anderson, The Club at Mediterra’s Director of Golf. “With an inexperienced novice golfer, what we like to do is have a little ‘get to know you’ session. We like to know what their interests are and what they would like to achieve and enjoy while they’re at the Club. We have what we call ‘get golf ready’ programs for ladies on Monday afternoons from 2:30 until 3:15. We focus on the fundamentals of the game, getting them comfortable with coming to the golf course, visiting the pro shop and locker room, and getting on the carts and going to the driving range. Those who take part in the programs typically play in our ladies’ 9-hole events on Wednesday afternoons. We usually average about 40 ladies per week. These are fun, social events.   We don’t play individual games. We play a team scramble, fun stuff like that. The new players typically make a connection with someone that is staffing these clinics and that generally develops into some individual instruction. That’s where they make their friends and get comfortable with the overall golf program. That’s our goal – to help every member get comfortable with our program and to provide an experience that is fun and socially rewarding.”

London Bay Homes has transformed Mediterra’s residential product offering with the introduction of new neighborhoods showcasing single-family villa and estate model homes with exterior architectural styles that pay homage to the community’s Mediterranean roots and open flowing interiors with captivating designs by Romanza Interior Design.
