NAPLES, Fla. (Aug. 24, 2016) – The Club at Mediterra will host its third annual one-day Tiebreak Tournament, Saturday, Aug. 27. The Tiebreak Tournament’s unique format includes a best of three 10-point “match tiebreak” set instead of the traditional best of three sets.
For example, a match score might be 10-7, 8-10, 11-9. That’s a total of 55 points, which is comparable to playing a standard set.
Mediterra’s Director of Tennis Michael Baldwin, a member of the USTA Adult Competition Special Project Team, started the first ever USTA-sanctioned tiebreak tournament at Mediterra and it was a huge success.
“It’s no surprise that the tournament is well attended and has become widely popular considering today’s modern, busy schedules. Many people don’t want to spend three days, their entire weekend and a lot of waiting around to play a tournament,” said Baldwin. “The tournament provides a great opportunity for players to participate in a fun, challenging competition in a condensed amount of time.”
Players will be divided by gender and age group (30-70). The goal will be for everyone to play three matches and guaranteed a minimum of two matches. Each division is played in a three-hour window. Draws and match times will be posted online prior to the tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winner of each age division.
Mediterra will also host the first USTA Tiebreak Tournament for juniors on Sept. 17.
London Bay Homes, which manages all new home sales and marketing for Mediterra, will serve as title sponsor of the USTA-sanctioned one-day Tiebreak Tournament.
