One of the great things about playing tennis is that you can participate at any age and skill level. One of the great things about playing tennis at Mediterra is the community’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art amenities for its residents to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
Mediterra has received many awards for its luxury amenities and from the very beginning, Mediterra’s tennis courts proved to be a winning addition to the Naples community with the designation of top new outdoor tennis facility in the country by the United States Tennis Court & Track Builders Association and Tennis Industry magazine. It was further honored during the 32nd annual USTA Outstanding Facility Awards Program, which recognizes excellence in the construction and/or renovation of public and private tennis facilities. So what makes Mediterra’s tennis facilities so special?
Well, for starters, it’s the seven award winning Har-Tru tennis courts, five of which are lighted. One of the tennis courts is a unique rounded court surrounded by grass-layered stadium seating, lush landscaping, and stone detailing. This court not only allows for more physical playing room, but it also allows Mediterra to host larger tennis matches, like the two USTA events held at the luxury home community in 2014. The first was the U30 Slam Series event, “A Night at Wimbledon Cardio Tennis,” for tennis players under 30 which was created to attract younger players to the world of tennis and the second was the USTA 1-Day Tiebreak Tournament designed to cut a two-day tournament down to 4-5 hours by setting up each match to be best of three “Match Tiebreaks,” which is first 10 points. This event was created to accommodate today’s busy lifestyle by cutting down on time and costs, but still allowing players to earn ranking points.
The other side to Mediterra’s success with tennis is the comprehensive tennis program created by Mediterra’s Director of Tennis, Michael Baldwin, to be complete, friendly, and fun. Whether you are just learning the game, introducing your children/grandchildren to the sport, or taking part in some friendly competition, the tennis program will fulfill your every need with leagues and lessons for all ages and abilities, as well as special events such as social mixers, junior tennis camps, clinics, and tournaments. Venus Williams even hosted an EleVen tennis clinic in 2012. If you are a little rusty, you can always sign up for private and semi-private lessons, have a crack at the ball machine for extra practice, or get a video analysis of your play to refine your skills. After working up a sweat on the court, Mediterra Sports Club members can freshen up in the locker room and showers and then visit the Full Service Pro Shop to shop for the latest tennis fashions and equipment.
There’s a reason Mediterra was given the title of one of America's Healthiest Clubs, ranking it among the top 10 percent of private clubs for its commitment to fitness and wellness for members and staff.
